Extraordinary Towers in Australia Covered with Vertical Gardens Using 38,000 Exotic Plants
Designed by the French architect Jean Nouvel
My favorite architectural buildings in Australia are the One Central Park towers located in Sydney which consist of two individual towers designed by the French architect Jean Nouvel.
What I find to be most beautiful about these towers is that they are made up of 38,000 indigenous and exotic plants using 250 different species of Australian flowers and plants.
When you look at various photographs of these amazing towers online, you will notice that all of the images look slightly different. That is because this is truly an organic design that changes with time, meaning that the buildings will look different during various seasons and at different times of the year. When the weather is warmer and there is plenty of rain, then you can expect to see the vertical gardens looking more luscious and greenish then at times when there are dry seasons and the plants are not able to get as much water.
You will also notice that there are large sections on the building that are entirely covered in plants. The largest vertical garden seems to span over 14 stories and there are several smaller areas as well that cover anywhere from 2 – 7 stories in height.
Aside from these large vertical gardens you will also see lots of flowers growing outside of people’s windows. This creates a very colorful appearance and many of the plants on the balconies seem to stretch from one story to the next and they seem to all connect together harmoniously to create one large garden of many individual flowers.
The purpose that this building serves is as an apartment complex with 600+ apartments. Besides being enveloped in nature and having a peaceful place to live, you will also find many different things to do within these large towers, including several restaurants as well as entertainment areas including technology and fashion. The location also includes 600+ parking spots for residents as well as visitors to park in.
The world’s biggest membrane bioreactor recycled water facility
There are many other features of this architectural design that make it a very unique building in Australia. Apart from the wonderful vertical hanging gardens you will also find a low carbon tri-generation power plant and internal water recycling plant.
The powerful water facility is found in the basement of the residential building and it services around 4,000 residents as well as 15,000 visitors and workers every day. The recycled water network is able to collect water from many different water sources including rain, irrigation, storm and groundwater. This collected and recycled water covers all of the water requirements of the entire community.
The Sky Garden
Sky is also a very interesting part of this building architecture design. It is the name of the 5 top levels of the One Central Park building that run from levels 29 to 33 at up to 116 m in height. It provides a very amazing private terrace that you can visit to be able to experience the incredible views of the inner harbor as well as the Botany Bay and Blue Mountains.
The Sky Garden extends out 40 m from the building and takes you high above the city and allows you to relax with in a jacuzzi with various dining options while outdoors and a beautiful lounge where you can enjoy the company of friends as well as a magnificent view of the city.
